The Homey and SmartThings guidance here comes from vendor documentation; their hub, firmware and security requirements differ. This is a whole-room occupancy sensor, with no detection zones or multi-person tracking. For zones, consider the Everything Presence Lite.

Privacy and local-control notes

Home Assistant connects locally through ESPHome without an extra vendor hub or an Everything Smart Home account; native API encryption is supported. The vendor also documents Homey and SmartThings paths. Homey requires a local hub and an unencrypted ESPHome API connection, so that LAN traffic lacks API encryption; Homey Cloud is unsupported. SmartThings requires its own firmware, a hub on the same network and the vendor's Edge driver, installed through a Samsung account. Local sensor communication does not make every controller app or account cloud-free.
