Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor - Tiny, cheap Zigbee sensor reporting temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure
Owner’s hands-on review ★★★★★

Are they accurate? Maybe. Are they cheap enough I don't care? Yes

Here’s how I think about temperature sensors for home automation. I reach for them for one of a few reasons:

  • Comfort - I want a room held at a certain temperature or humidity.
  • Function - I want to act on a reading, like turning a bathroom fan on when someone is showering and back off once the humidity drops.
  • The “I’m an idiot” reason - I forget to shut the drink fridge or the garage freezer. In one case the drinks went warm and a wall of ice built up at the back; in another, an open freezer door spoiled close to a thousand dollars of food while my wife and I were at the hospital for a couple of days. Coming home to that is no fun.

For those last two categories I don’t need accuracy, I need a delta - a change worth alerting on. For the comfort category you can apply an offset so the reading tracks true, but our Ecobee has temperature pucks, so I usually lean on those for comfort instead.

Quick verdict

Aqara's classic Temperature and Humidity Sensor is a tiny, cheap Zigbee unit that also reports atmospheric pressure. It pairs locally through zigbee2mqtt or ZHA and supports calibration offsets. At this price you can scatter them around the house for room-by-room climate data in Home Assistant.

Standout: Tiny, very cheap Zigbee sensor that reports temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure.

Local control facts

  • Home Assistant: zha integration, Local Polling (home-assistant.io, checked Sep 10, 2026)
  • Zigbee2MQTT: supported device, listed as Aqara WSDCGQ11LM (Temperature and humidity sensor) (zigbee2mqtt.io, checked Sep 10, 2026)

Why it stands out

  • measures temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure in one tiny unit
  • very cheap, so easy to place several around the house
  • supports per-sensor calibration offsets in zigbee2mqtt

Reasons to hesitate

  • requires a Zigbee coordinator (Aqara officially supports only their own hub, but ZHA/zigbee2mqtt work well)
  • Xiaomi/Aqara Zigbee devices can occasionally drop off non-Aqara meshes
  • battery device reports on intervals, not instantly

Best for

  • Zigbee Home Assistant setups wanting cheap room climate monitoring
  • tracking temperature, humidity and pressure trends across multiple rooms

Avoid if

  • you have no Zigbee coordinator
  • you want a built-in display

Privacy and local-control notes

Pure Zigbee device with no cloud component. Fully local when paired to a Zigbee coordinator via zigbee2mqtt or ZHA.
