Hue's bridge prices went up: which bridge a local house needs
Hue's Bridge Pro is $149.99 and the Bridge $79.99 on Hue's US store, after two rises this year. What the premium buys a Home Assistant or Apple Home house.

Hueblog reported on September 16 that Philips Hue had raised prices on a run of products in Europe, with the Hue Bridge Pro going from EUR 99.99 to EUR 149.99 in Germany, against a launch price of EUR 89.99 a year ago. When I first wrote this up on September 19, the US story was a different one: the US Bridge Pro increase had already happened in the spring. Since then the US has moved again.
Update, October 14: Hue’s US store now lists the Bridge Pro at $149.99 (was $139.99) and the plain Hue Bridge at $79.99 (was $69.99). Archived copies of the two pages put the change between September 19 and October 5 for the Bridge, and between September 23 and October 7 for the Bridge Pro.
Short version: if you run Home Assistant or Apple Home, none of this changes what you should buy. The Bridge Pro’s $149.99 price sits $70 above the plain Hue Bridge at $79.99, and what that $70 buys is a bigger device ceiling plus features that live in the Hue app: MotionAware, the natural-language automations Signify promised for early October, and cloud restore. One of those, MotionAware, does reach Home Assistant. The rest is for people who run their lights from Hue’s app. A local house that wants Hue lighting still wants the plain Bridge, or no bridge at all if the bulbs are new enough to speak Matter over Thread. What changed is the arithmetic, not the capability.
What changed, and when
Two separate things were reported as one in September. Hueblog’s September 16 piece is about Europe. The US moved earlier, and then again in late September or early October. I can pin both US moves from archived copies of Hue’s own product pages.
| Product | Then | Now | When it moved |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hue Bridge Pro, US | $98.99 at launch and still $98.99 on May 8, 2026, then $139.99 | $149.99 | Between May 8 and June 9, 2026, then between September 23 and October 7, 2026 |
| Hue Bridge, US | $59.99 in June 2025, $65.99 from July 2025, $69.99 from July 2026 | $79.99 | Between May 8 and July 9, 2026, then between September 19 and October 5, 2026 |
| Hue Bridge Pro, Germany | EUR 89.99 at launch, EUR 99.99 from March 2026 | EUR 149.99 | September 2026 (Hueblog) |
| Hue Bridge Pro, UK | not checked | GBP 129.99 | not established |
The first US Bridge Pro rise was about 41 percent. Hueblog reported it on June 3 and the archived pages agree. 9to5Google puts the same US rise at “around mid-late August”, which does not match: the page was already showing $139.99 on June 9.
From launch to today, the US Bridge Pro is up $51, or about 52 percent. The plain Bridge is up $20 from its June 2025 price, across three increases.
The September round reported by Hueblog was European:
- Hue Essential 4-packs went from EUR 59.99 to EUR 69.99.
- The Flux and OmniGlow strips went up by EUR 10 to EUR 20.
- That came on top of a July round that moved ten German products by up to EUR 15 each.
Signify’s wording in that July round was that adjustments “apply to select Philips Hue products and product categories and may vary by retailer/channel and market”. Both US bridges held their prices through at least September 19, so the October US move came separately from the European round.
For reference, here is what Hue’s US store wanted for the catalog products covered here, on September 19 and again on October 14. These are Hue’s list prices, not street prices, and the gap matters: the Hue Bridge was $52.99 on Amazon in the check recorded on its catalog page on October 14, well under the $79.99 list.
| Product | Hue US store, September 19 | Hue US store, October 14 |
|---|---|---|
| Hue Bridge Pro | $139.99 | $149.99 |
| Hue Bridge | $69.99 | $79.99 |
| White and Color Ambiance A19, single 75 W | $64.99 | $64.99, marked no longer available |
| Hue Smart Plug | $37.99 | $39.99 |
| Hue Motion Sensor | $48.99 | $48.99 |
| Hue Dimmer Switch | $30.99 | $30.99 |
| Hue Tap Dial Switch | $54.99 | $54.99, out of stock |
| Hue Play light bar, single | $109.99 | $109.99 |
| Hue gradient lightstrip, 80 inch | $197.99 | $197.99, with an outlet code on the page |
One note on that last row. The card that page produces is the 2020 gradient lightstrip, the old model, not either of the strips Hue put on sale on September 15, which are cheaper and built differently, as the September launch brief set out. The $197.99 belongs to the old one.
What the extra $70 buys, and whether it stays local
The two bridges differ on the vendor’s own pages in three ways.
Device ceiling
Hue says the plain Bridge “supports 50 lights, 12 accessories” and the Bridge Pro “supports 150+ lights, 50+ accessories”. That is the one difference that is about the hardware rather than the app, and it is the one reason I would understand someone buying a Pro: it keeps a house past 50 Hue lights on a single bridge.
MotionAware
MotionAware turns existing Hue lights into motion detection zones, and Hue lists it as a Bridge Pro feature. This is the part I expected to be locked to Hue’s cloud, and it is not. Home Assistant added support for MotionAware sensors on the Bridge Pro in its 2025.10 release, so the zones arrive as entities you can automate on. It has had bugs since then, including a report from April this year where a zone produced a light switch and no motion sensor. That issue is now closed. I would still not buy a Pro purely for this until I had read a few reports from people running the current version.
The app features
Signify’s September announcement calls Custom AI Behaviors “exclusive to the Hue Bridge Pro” and puts them in early October. As of October 14 I couldn’t find anywhere that says they have shipped; the newest Bridge Pro release note, dated September 24, doesn’t mention them. Back-up and Restore will save a bridge’s settings to the Hue cloud from either bridge, but “restoring a saved setup will initially be available to Bridge Pro users”, and Signify says it is still in development. Both live in the Hue app. If your automations run in Home Assistant, you will not be writing them in the Hue app, and Home Assistant keeps its own backups.
Nothing in the increase changes how Hue talks to a local controller. Home Assistant’s Hue integration is local push against the bridge’s own API, and Hue’s spec sheets give both bridges the same line for Matter: “via Hue Bridge”. Apart from MotionAware, I couldn’t find anywhere that says a Bridge Pro makes Home Assistant’s integration faster, more local or more capable.
Buy, wait or ignore
Home Assistant house. Ignore. Buy the plain Bridge if you want Hue’s full feature set, and shop it somewhere other than Hue’s own store, where the list price has risen three times since mid-2025. I would only spend $149.99 for more than 50 Hue lights on one bridge, or a deliberate interest in MotionAware.
Apple Home or Google Home house. Same answer, with one caveat: the Hue app is a bigger part of your day than it is for a Home Assistant house, so the AI automation features are at least aimed at you. They are not worth $70 on their own, and I couldn’t find anywhere that says they have shipped yet.
Budget buyer. If you are buying Hue lighting now, skip the bridge decision entirely on the first purchase. Hue’s new lights, bulbs and strips support Matter over Thread and can join Home Assistant or Apple Home directly through a Thread border router. That is reported by Hueblog rather than stated by Signify, and the older bulbs in my own house do not do it. Gradient products are the exception: Matter does not support color gradients yet, so those still want the Hue app and a bridge.
Does this change my picks?
No pick changes, and one correction to how I frame the Hue Bridge.
- Hue Bridge. Still the Hue hub I would point a local house at. Its catalog page calls the price fair, which I stand by at the Amazon prices recorded there, less so at Hue’s own $79.99. The Bridge Pro is not going into the catalog on the strength of a device ceiling.
- Matter bridge vs native Matter. The cost side of that comparison moved. A Hue Bridge is now a $79.99 list-price entry fee to the bridged path, against a Thread border router, which is a cost a lot of local houses have already paid.
- Matter over Thread bulbs. Unchanged, and still waiting on the same thing as in the September launch brief: a spec sheet naming the Thread radio in a specific Hue bulb before any of them go in that comparison.
My own Hue gear is old: white bulbs, white and color bulbs, and a Lightstrip Plus. Over ten years I have replaced more plain LED bulbs than Hue ones, which is the reason I keep recommending Hue lighting. It is not a reason to pay for the larger bridge.
