Quick verdict

The gradient lightstrip is the premium option for accent lighting. Unlike single-color strips, it blends multiple colors across its length, which looks great behind a TV or along shelves. Through the Hue integration Home Assistant controls it as a single light; only Zigbee2MQTT exposes the per-segment gradient, so set expectations accordingly. The catch is the price. A WLED setup on an ESP32 with addressable LEDs costs a fifth as much and gives you more flexibility. But if you want it to work perfectly out of the box inside a Hue setup, nothing else matches this.

Same local story as other Hue devices via the Bridge. No cloud needed for control. It can also be paired directly to ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT without a Hue Bridge, and the Hue Bluetooth app gives basic bridgeless control.

Buying reality check

Price notes: Hard to justify on pure value when WLED strips exist. You are paying for the polish and the zero-config Hue integration.
