Quick verdict

The gradient lightstrip is the premium option for accent lighting. Unlike single-color strips, it blends multiple colors across its length, which looks great behind a TV or along shelves. Home Assistant sees each zone as a separate light, so you get fine-grained control. The catch is the price. A WLED setup on an ESP32 with addressable LEDs costs a fifth as much and gives you more flexibility. But if you want it to work perfectly out of the box inside a Hue setup, nothing else matches this.

Standout: Multi-zone gradient lets you display several colors along a single strip at once.

Why it stands out

  • displays multiple colors simultaneously along the strip instead of one flat color
  • Home Assistant exposes each color zone as a separate light entity for per-segment control
  • build quality and adhesive are noticeably better than budget LED strips

Reasons to hesitate

  • extremely expensive compared to basic WLED or other addressable LED options
  • requires the Hue Bridge, cannot run standalone
  • not easily cut to custom lengths like basic LED tape

Best for

  • TV backlighting, shelf accents, or under-cabinet runs where multi-color gradients look great
  • Hue Bridge owners who want premium accent lighting with zero configuration hassle

Avoid if

  • you are comfortable with WLED on ESP32 strips, which give you more control for a fraction of the cost
  • you need custom lengths. Standard LED strips with WLED are far more flexible

Privacy and local-control notes

Same local story as other Hue devices via the Bridge. No cloud needed for control.

Home Assistant support: supported · integration path: native hue integration (via bridge).

Buying reality check

Price notes: Hard to justify on pure value when WLED strips exist. You are paying for the polish and the zero-config Hue integration.
