Quick verdict

The Shelly 1 Mini Gen3 is the go-to tiny relay for local-first smart homes. It fits behind virtually any switch plate, integrates instantly with Home Assistant via the native Shelly integration, and needs zero cloud. One caveat on which generation you buy: Shelly has since released the 1 Mini Gen4, which adds a Zigbee radio alongside the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Matter-over-Wi-Fi the Gen3 already does, and the Gen4 is the only 1 Mini Shelly's US store stocks - the Gen3 is a European listing now. Existing Gen3 units are unaffected and stay fully local. If you want to make dumb switches smart without replacing them, this is still the way to do it.

Price notes: Scope this one by market. Shelly's EU store still lists the 1 Mini Gen3 at EUR 13.90 and in stock (checked 2026-09-25), but Shelly's US store does not carry the Gen3 at all - its catalogue lists the 1 Mini Gen4 at $24.99 in that slot. Treat the EUR 13.90 figure as a European price only; if you are buying in the US, price the Gen4.
