Quick verdict

A basic warm white dimmable bulb. No tunable white, no color, just 2700K warm dimming. That sounds limiting, but for closets, hallways, and garages it is all you need. You still get Hue's excellent dimming curve and Zigbee mesh reliability. Each bulb also acts as a router, strengthening your network. If you already own a Hue Bridge, these are the cheapest way to put smart lights in every room. If you do not own a Bridge yet, consider whether the total cost makes sense versus a Wi-Fi or Thread alternative.

• budget is the main concern and you do not already own a Hue Bridge. An IKEA Tradfri bulb is cheaper and works with zigbee2mqtt

Privacy and local-control notes

Through the Hue Bridge, control is fully local. Bluetooth pairing mode is device-to-device with no cloud. If paired to zigbee2mqtt or ZHA directly, zero cloud involvement.
