Apollo R PRO-1 PoE ceiling-mount presence sensor

Quick verdict

Apollo's flagship presence sensor: a ceiling-mount mmWave unit powered by a single PoE Ethernet cable, with one radar included (LD2450) and room for an optional second radar (LD2412). The detection accuracy is a step above USB-powered models, and the ceiling placement eliminates the blind spots you get with desk or shelf mounting. It is overkill for a single room, but for whole-home presence tracking on a PoE backbone, nothing in the ESPHome ecosystem matches it.

Standout: PoE ceiling-mount mmWave presence sensor - ships with one LD2450 radar plus an optional second LD2412 radar for dual-radar sensing. Apollo's most capable.

Why it stands out

  • dual-radar capable: ships with one LD2450 mmWave radar, with an optional second LD2412 radar for multi-zone presence detection
  • PoE powered, so a single Ethernet cable handles power and data with no USB cable or adapter needed
  • ceiling mount design gives optimal radar coverage for room presence tracking

Reasons to hesitate

  • premium price point, significantly more than basic presence sensors
  • requires PoE infrastructure (switch or injector) which adds cost if you do not already have it
  • ceiling mounting requires running an Ethernet cable to the mounting point

Best for

  • serious Home Assistant users who want the most accurate presence detection possible
  • commercial or whole-home installations where PoE infrastructure already exists

Avoid if

  • you do not have PoE infrastructure and do not want to invest in it
  • you need a simple, budget-friendly presence sensor. The MSR-2 or MTR-1 are more practical

Privacy and local-control notes

Fully local via ESPHome. No cloud, no account. PoE connection means it does not even need WiFi if connected via Ethernet. Radar-based, no camera.

Buying reality check

Price notes: Premium pricing reflects the dual radar hardware and PoE capability. Factor in PoE switch costs if you do not already have one.
