I like it, though it's a little awkward with a standard switch

I use the Shelly Dimmer 2 to control a big light panel. It’s a little awkward to use with a standard switch, but I like it otherwise.

Quick verdict

Shelly has discontinued the Dimmer 2 - it is no longer produced or sold - so new buyers should choose the Shelly Dimmer Gen4 for behind-the-switch installs, or the Shelly Pro Dimmer 2PM on a DIN rail. If you already own one, keep it: it hides behind your existing switch plate, gives you local dimming through the native Home Assistant integration or MQTT, and needs no cloud. The in-wall install was never for everyone, but the result is still a clean, fully local smart dimmer.

Standout: Hides the smart bits behind an existing switch instead of forcing a visible full-switch replacement; discontinued by Shelly Group, with the Shelly Dimmer Gen4 as the current behind-the-switch replacement.

Shelly Dimmer 2 discontinued; Dimmer Gen4 replaces it, with a wiring catch

Shelly no longer makes the Dimmer 2, the device I run most of in my own house. The Dimmer Gen4 is the replacement. Shelly’s 230 V documentation allows no-neutral installs with a bypass; the US documentation for the S4DM-0A102US says it works only with a neutral wire while the US store title says “No Neutral”. Check the wiring guide for your region before ordering.
