Philips Hue Econic Outdoor Wall Lantern product image

Quick verdict

The Econic is a complete outdoor wall lantern with integrated Hue color LEDs. It replaces your existing porch or garage light and wires into the same junction box. The modern angular design will either match your taste or it will not, so look at photos before committing. Color control outdoors is useful: warm white for everyday, bright cool white triggered by a motion sensor for security, seasonal colors for holidays. The reality check is price. You could buy a decent outdoor fixture and drop a Hue A19 color bulb inside it for a third of the cost. The trade-off is weather sealing. The Econic is designed for outdoor exposure, while a regular bulb in a semi-enclosed fixture may not hold up as well long term. If the design fits your house and you want the cleanest installation, the Econic delivers. If you are price-sensitive, a regular fixture plus bulb gets you 90% of the way there.

Standout: Complete outdoor wall fixture with integrated Hue color light and a modern architectural design.

Why it stands out

  • complete wall-mounted fixture with integrated Hue color light, no separate bulb to buy
  • modern angular design that looks good as a porch or garage light
  • IP44 rated for outdoor use and wires into standard outdoor junction boxes

Reasons to hesitate

  • very expensive for a single outdoor wall light
  • requires hardwiring to mains voltage, so you need basic electrical skill or an electrician
  • if the integrated LED fails, you replace the entire fixture, not just a bulb

Best for

  • front porch, back door, and garage lighting where you want color control and a modern look
  • automating outdoor lights to turn on at sunset with warm white and shift to security-bright when motion is detected

Avoid if

  • you want a traditional lantern look. The Econic is decidedly modern and angular
  • budget matters. A standard outdoor fixture with a Hue bulb inside is much cheaper, though less weather-sealed

Privacy and local-control notes

Through the Hue Bridge, control is fully local. Outdoor Zigbee signal may require the Bridge to be close enough or a Zigbee router in between.

Home Assistant support: supported · integration path: native hue integration (via bridge) or zigbee2mqtt / ZHA.

Buying reality check

Price notes: One of the most expensive individual products in the Hue lineup. Weigh the cost against buying a standard outdoor fixture and putting a Hue bulb inside it.
