Nuki Smart Lock Pro (5th Gen)

Quick verdict

Nuki's 5th gen Pro is a go-to smart lock for Home Assistant. Matter over Thread (plus built-in Wi-Fi) means it talks directly to your network with no bridge or cloud in the middle. It clamps onto your existing cylinder, so installation is non-destructive. For a US single-cylinder deadbolt the model to buy is the separate Nuki Smart Lock (Deadbolt); the Pro itself is a European profile and round cylinder product. The price is steep, but you get a fully local smart lock.

Standout: Matter over Thread retrofit smart lock for European profile and round cylinders, with built-in Wi-Fi, no hub and no cloud required.

Compatibility snapshot

Why it stands out

• Matter over Thread (plus built-in Wi-Fi) means no hub, no bridge, no cloud for a fully local smart lock
• retrofits over your existing cylinder without replacing it
• Thread mesh networking gives excellent range and reliability

Reasons to hesitate

• European profile and round cylinders only; the Pro is not sold on Nuki's US store and will not fit a US single-cylinder deadbolt
• premium price point for a retrofit lock adapter
• Thread border router required on your network for Matter connectivity

Best for

• Home Assistant users wanting a local-first smart lock with no cloud dependency
• anyone with a European profile or round cylinder door who wants Matter over Thread

Avoid if

• you have a non-cylinder or mortise lock not covered by Nuki's adapter range
• you want a built-in keypad or fingerprint reader. Those are separate Nuki accessories

Privacy and local-control notes

Matter over Thread is fully local. No cloud account required for basic operation. Nuki cloud is optional for remote access and guest management.

Home Assistant support: supported · integration path: Matter.
