IKEA Timmerflotte - Cheap Matter-over-Thread temp + humidity sensor with a built-in display, readable without an app
Owner’s hands-on review ★★★★☆

A cheaper per-room temperature option, with a screen-wake limitation

I give the IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE 4/5. My only real complaint is that I haven’t found a way to wake the screen on demand remotely. I have to physically press the button to see the reading.

For temperature and humidity in individual rooms, I’d consider it a cheaper alternative to the ALPSTUGA if you don’t need that model’s CO₂ and PM2.5 air-quality measurements. IKEA’s US listings checked on September 13, 2026 showed TIMMERFLOTTE at $11.99 and ALPSTUGA at $34.99. TIMMERFLOTTE’s batteries and ALPSTUGA’s USB-C cable and power adapter are sold separately.

Quick verdict

The IKEA Timmerflotte is hard to beat on price for a glanceable Matter temp/humidity readout. You'll need a Thread border router, and it's slow to update so don't use it for tight HVAC loops, but for ambient awareness it's excellent value.

Standout: Cheap Matter-over-Thread temp + humidity sensor with a built-in display, readable without an app.

Local control facts

  • Home Assistant: matter integration, Local Push (home-assistant.io, checked Sep 10, 2026)

Why it stands out

  • Very inexpensive Matter-over-Thread temperature + humidity sensor with a built-in display
  • Local control through any Matter controller - Home Assistant, Apple Home, Google, SmartThings
  • Press the front to read temperature and humidity without opening an app

Reasons to hesitate

  • Requires a Thread border router - not a standalone device
  • Update interval is slow - designed for ambient awareness, not fast control loops
  • Indoor use only, not waterproof

Best for

  • Matter/Thread households wanting cheap room-by-room temp/humidity with a screen
  • Hallways, kid's rooms, basements where a glanceable readout matters

Avoid if

  • You don't have a Thread border router
  • You need sub-30-second updates for HVAC control

Privacy and local-control notes

Matter over Thread - local by design. Needs a Thread border router (an IKEA Dirigera, an Apple or Google hub, or Home Assistant itself running a Thread-firmware radio such as the Connect ZBT-2). No vendor cloud account required.

Home Assistant support: supported · integration path: Matter over Thread (Thread border router required).

Buying reality check

Price notes: Among the cheapest Matter temp/humidity sensors with a screen. IKEA-only - not sold on Amazon.
