IKEA VINDSTYRKA Air Quality Sensor

IKEA

mid HA: goodReliable local integration with minor caveats (a hub, manual config, or polling). Core function works locally. local: excellentFully controllable on your LAN with no internet dependency. zigbee

Quick verdict

An unusually good-value local air quality sensor: a real Sensirion particulate module behind a small display, reporting PM2.5, temperature, humidity and a VOC index over plain Zigbee. It pairs straight to ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT with no IKEA hub. The old gotcha - PM2.5 not surfacing on ZHA - was fixed by a device quirk around HA 2025.2 and works out of the box on Zigbee2MQTT. One caveat: IKEA is replacing it with the Matter-based ALPSTUGA, so VINDSTYRKA is now end-of-life stock.

Standout: Packs a genuine Sensirion SEN54 module with active fan and front display, exposing PM2.5, temperature, humidity and a VOC index over Zigbee for about $50.

Why it stands out

  • Exposes PM2.5, temperature, humidity and a Sensirion VOC index over Zigbee - fully local, no cloud
  • USB-C mains power with an active fan for continuous sampling, plus a standalone display
  • Excellent value: a Sensirion-grade particulate sensor for about $50

Reasons to hesitate

  • Being superseded by IKEA's Matter ALPSTUGA - treat as end-of-life stock
  • PM2.5 is reported as whole numbers and tends to read a touch low vs reference monitors
  • On ZHA, full PM2.5/VOC exposure needs a recent HA version (fine on Zigbee2MQTT)

Best for

  • Local-first homes wanting affordable PM2.5 + VOC data on ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT
  • Automations that react to indoor air quality (fans, purifiers)

Avoid if

  • You want a future-proof Matter device (look at the ALPSTUGA successor)
  • You need lab-grade particulate accuracy

Privacy and local-control notes

Pairs to a generic Zigbee coordinator via ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT with no IKEA DIRIGERA hub or cloud. All readings stay on your LAN.

Home Assistant support: supported · integration path: ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT (local).
