My household favorite, with one Plex overheating workaround

I give my second-generation Apple TV 4K 5/5. I prefer its interface, controlling it from my iPhone is convenient, and it pretty much always just works. It also got my wife’s thumbs-up where the Shield TV didn’t.

There is one substantial exception: my unit overheated and stuttered when streaming 4K content from Plex. I added a large heatsink on top, and I haven’t had issues since. That workaround is part of my experience with this unit, even though I’m happy enough with it overall to give it 5/5.

Quick verdict

I give my second-generation Apple TV 4K 5/5 for its interface, iPhone controls and everyday reliability. My exception was overheating and stuttering during 4K Plex playback; adding a large heatsink on top resolved that on my unit.
