Great doorbell; my custom motion GIF disappears after every update

I replaced another UniFi doorbell with this one, and it’s been great with one caveat. My custom motion animation, an Obi-Wan Kenobi “Hello there” GIF that’s supposed to play when it sees motion, always goes away after updates, which is annoying. Other than that, it’s a 5/5 for me.

Quick verdict

If you're in the UniFi ecosystem and want a doorbell that records locally with no monthly fee, the G4 Doorbell Pro is the one. The dual-camera package detection is useful and everything stays on your own NVR. It's a wired install and it's not cheap, but it's the most capable local-first doorbell available.

Buying reality check

Price notes: Premium upfront cost; no recurring fees, unlike Ring/Nest doorbells. On 2026-10-06 the Amazon listing I had linked (B0F5X4LHC8) returned Amazon's Page Not Found, and the only other Amazon listing I found had used units only, from $499.99. Ubiquiti's US store listed it at $299 but sold out the same day, so the button now goes to Ubiquiti's store page.
