Home Assistant already talks to SwitchBot's Bluetooth devices locally over BLE without this hub, so treat it as an add-on rather than a requirement: you want it for Matter, for voice assistants, and for reaching devices from outside Bluetooth range. Setup goes through SwitchBot's cloud app, which is annoying but a one-time affair. After that, Matter control runs locally. The IR blaster is a nice extra for controlling TVs and air conditioners. At the budget price point, it is hard to complain.
