SwitchBot Air Purifier - Matter-enabled
Owner’s hands-on review ★★★★☆

Great, but Home Assistant Exposure is lacking

I have allergy problems, and thus want air purifiers I can change the fan speed of based on things like outdoor air quality, rather than waiting for indoor air quality to go below the threshold to bump up the level.

I have two, and while I haven’t found an air purifier I like more, home assistant integration is a little frustrating (Changing the fan speed requires more clicks than I want).

I first integrated with home assistant and when I added it to the Switchbot app, it unpaired from home assistant, which was also annoying.

Quick verdict

A solid mid-range HEPA purifier that exposes to Home Assistant locally over hub-free Matter-over-WiFi (since a Feb 2025 firmware update — no SwitchBot Hub needed). Matter covers the core controls; the local SwitchBot Bluetooth integration can add fan-speed detail.

Standout: Matter-enabled HEPA air purifier with reasonable noise/CADR balance.

Why it stands out

  • Real HEPA filter at a reasonable price for the noise level
  • Hub-free Matter-over-WiFi means it adds to Home Assistant or HomeKit without the SwitchBot cloud or a hub
  • Compact for the CADR rating; works well in a single room

Reasons to hesitate

  • Out of the box, control routes through the SwitchBot app/cloud until you add it to Matter
  • Filter replacements are an ongoing cost
  • HA integration via HACS is community-maintained, not first-party

Best for

  • Single-room air purification for households already running Matter
  • People who want quieter operation than the budget alternatives

Avoid if

  • You want fully local control out of the box without doing the one-time Matter pairing
  • You need whole-home coverage (look at AirGradient + a larger HEPA)

Privacy and local-control notes

Pairs to a SwitchBot account by default, but a 2025 firmware update added hub-free Matter-over-WiFi, which is the cleanest route to fully local control with no SwitchBot cloud.

Home Assistant support: supported · integration path: Matter-over-WiFi, hub-free (firmware 2.2+); SwitchBot Bluetooth (HACS) for extra control.

Buying reality check

Price notes: Mid-tier on price; filter replacement cost is the long-term variable.
