Shelly Wall Display XL - A
Owner’s hands-on review ★★★★☆

Expensive, Slow, but I like it anyway.

This is basically what feels like a 2016 Android tablet trying to run a modern operating system. It’s slow, and things like dimmer sliders in home assistant dashboards require a click, not a drag to operate well (At least at the time of this review). But honestly, the fact that it replaces a switch (Neutral required), and I had the perfect spot for it in my house makes me love it. The tablet on the wall I could never make look right, and this replaced two hue dimmer switches and a wall switch, on top of displaying a dashboard created for it.

Is it worth the price? No. Would I buy it again? Yes.

Quick verdict

The Shelly Wall Display XL is a 10.1-inch in-wall panel that replaces a wall switch (neutral required) and runs a Home Assistant dashboard, integrating locally through the native Shelly integration over Wi-Fi 6. It is expensive and the interface can feel slow, but for a permanent, good-looking wall dashboard that also controls a load, it is a compelling local-first option.

Standout: A 10.1-inch in-wall touchscreen that doubles as a Home Assistant dashboard and a switch replacement, controlled locally via the Shelly integration.

Why it stands out

  • large 10.1-inch in-wall touchscreen for dashboards and local control
  • built-in relay replaces a wall switch (neutral required)
  • fully local via the native Shelly Home Assistant integration, Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth

Reasons to hesitate

  • expensive at around $350
  • the on-device UI can feel sluggish and firmware is still maturing
  • needs a neutral wire and an in-wall box that fits a 10.1-inch panel

Best for

  • a permanent wall-mounted Home Assistant dashboard that also replaces a switch
  • Shelly users who want a large local control panel instead of a propped-up tablet

Avoid if

  • you want something cheap or a simple on/off switch
  • you need a small, fast, mature panel today

Privacy and local-control notes

Shelly devices support fully local control via their HTTP/RPC API and the native Shelly Home Assistant integration. No cloud account required; the Shelly Cloud app is optional.
