The HomePod mini is a cheap way to add a Thread border router and HomeKit home hub to your smart home. Audio quality punches above its size and Apple's privacy stance is a real advantage. Siri remains less capable than competitors, and there is no native Home Assistant HomePod integration (AirPlay 2 + HomeKit bridge only), but as a HomeKit/Matter hub it earns its place in an Apple household. Note which model you are buying: this entry is the original 2020 mini. Apple announced a second-generation HomePod mini (Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6, $149) on 13 October 2026, shipping 30 October, and its own store now sells only that one.
