For Home Assistant it works locally over Bluetooth through the native SwitchBot integration (or an ESPHome BLE proxy) with no hub and no cloud; a Hub Mini or Hub 2 is only needed for remote access or Matter. Once it is running, tilt automations based on time or sunlight are actually useful for comfort and energy savings.
