I can't recommend them, even for the price

Pairing was a nightmare with every one of my IKEA TRADFRI bulbs. They randomly fail to respond, and two stopped connecting entirely. I can’t recommend them, even for the price.

Quick verdict

IKEA no longer sells the TRADFRI bulbs: its own support pages say the smart LED bulb range was replaced by KAJPLATS in January 2026, and the US smart lighting catalog now lists only KAJPLATS. A TRADFRI bulb you already own is still a fine budget Zigbee bulb. It won't dazzle you with color or dimming finesse, but it pairs reliably with zigbee2mqtt and ZHA, doubles as a mesh router, and costs less than a fast food meal. Hard to beat for basic smart lighting on a budget.

Standout: Rock-bottom price for a Zigbee smart bulb that also extends your mesh; replaced by the Matter over Thread and Zigbee KAJPLATS range in January 2026.
