IKEA GRILLPLATS Smart Plug

Quick verdict

GRILLPLATS is IKEA's low-cost Matter over Thread plug with power and energy readings, and Matter Survey shows it widely used in Home Assistant installs. IKEA's US page doesn't publish a load rating. I haven't run this one; the notes come from IKEA's US product page, the CSA listing and Matter Survey data.

Standout: A very cheap Matter over Thread plug that also reports power and energy.

Compatibility snapshot

Why it stands out

• tracks power usage, which Matter Survey shows exposed as an electrical power and energy sensor
• no IKEA hub needed; any Thread border router works, with DIRIGERA as IKEA's own example

Reasons to hesitate

• IKEA's US page lists no maximum load, so check before plugging in heaters or other high-draw appliances
• needs a Thread border router before it can be controlled from a phone
• sold only through IKEA

Best for

• cheap local on/off control with energy readings in a Thread-based Home Assistant setup
• lamps and small appliances where you'd like to see power draw

Avoid if

• you have no Thread border router
• you need a published load rating before you buy

Privacy and local-control notes

Matter over Thread plug. On/off and power readings go to Home Assistant through your Thread border router with no IKEA account involved.

Home Assistant support: supported · integration path: matter.
