Aeotec TriSensor 8 (ZWA045) - compact 800-series Z-Wave multisensor for motion, temperature and light

Quick verdict

The 800-series successor to Aeotec's compact 3-in-1 multisensor: motion to about 10 m, temperature (plus or minus 1 C) and lux (0-30,000), still on a single CR123A, now with SmartStart, S2 and Z-Wave Long Range on the US frequency. Same trade-offs as the original - no humidity sensor, and heavy reporting shortens battery life - but the newer silicon closes the old model's biggest gap.

Standout: The 800-series refresh of the compact TriSensor - motion, temperature and light in one small body, adding SmartStart onboarding, S2 security and Z-Wave Long Range.

Local control facts

  • Home Assistant: zwave_js integration, Local Push (home-assistant.io, checked Sep 10, 2026)
  • Z-Wave JS: in the device database, listed as Aeotec Ltd. ZWA045 (TriSensor 8) (github.com, checked Sep 10, 2026)

Why it stands out

  • Three sensors (motion, temperature, light) in one compact S2-secure Z-Wave node
  • 800-series silicon: SmartStart onboarding and Z-Wave Long Range support
  • Fully local via Z-Wave JS - no cloud, works offline

Reasons to hesitate

  • Temperature only (no humidity)
  • Frequent motion/lux reporting drains the single CR123A faster
  • Long Range needs an 800-series controller to matter

Best for

  • Z-Wave households wanting a small local motion + temp + lux sensor on current-generation silicon
  • Privacy-focused setups avoiding any cloud sensor

Avoid if

  • You need humidity in the same unit
  • You want mains power or the longest possible battery life

Privacy and local-control notes

A standard Z-Wave node - all motion, temperature and light data stays local through your Z-Wave controller via Z-Wave JS. No cloud, ever.

Home Assistant support: supported · integration path: Z-Wave JS (local).
