Intel NUC 12 Pro

Quick verdict

The NUC 12 Pro is overkill for basic Home Assistant, and that's exactly why some people love it. If you're running Frigate, multiple dashboards, and a pile of add-ons, the extra CPU and RAM headroom pays off. It is discontinued, though: Intel left the NUC business and ASUS, which now owns the line, lists the NUC 12 Pro as discontinued since April 2024, with software support ended in October 2025 and security updates running to April 2027. Buy one used with that in mind, or buy the current ASUS NUC 15 Pro instead.

Standout: More CPU headroom than the typical N100 mini PC, which matters if the smart home is turning into a broader local services stack.

Price notes: More expensive than the N100 price point, but easier to justify when you expect years of expansion or heavier add-ons. The Amazon listing linked here was a NUC12WSKi7 barebone kit (no RAM, SSD or operating system) at $625 from a third-party seller on October 16, 2026.
