Quick verdict

The NUC 12 Pro is overkill for basic Home Assistant, and that's exactly why some people love it. If you're running Frigate, multiple dashboards, and a pile of add-ons, the extra CPU and RAM headroom pays off. It is discontinued, though: Intel left the NUC business and ASUS, which now owns the line, lists the NUC 12 Pro as discontinued since April 2024, with software support ended in October 2025 and security updates running to April 2027. Buy one used with that in mind, or buy the current ASUS NUC 15 Pro instead.

Standout: More CPU headroom than the typical N100 mini PC, which matters if the smart home is turning into a broader local services stack.
